Finding the right Oregon DPSST training provider is an important first step toward working as a private security professional. Use this directory to compare public courses for unarmed, armed, additional-firearm, and alarm monitor certification.

Enrolling in a DPSST certification course is essential for your career in private security.

After completing the required training and application steps for the DPSST certification, visit our Oregon security jobs board to look for openings. Before buying equipment, confirm your employer’s policies and the duties of your position.

Provider listings below include publicly available prices, delivery formats, locations, and links to official course pages when those details could be verified. “Price not publicly posted” means the provider advertises the course but does not publish tuition on its website.

For an overview of certification types, application steps, and licensing requirements, read our Oregon DPSST certifications and licenses guide.

Which DPSST Training Do You Need?

Choose the credential before choosing a course. Start with the certification comparison and review background eligibility before paying when you have unresolved application questions.

First unarmed certification

New unarmed applicants complete the 14-hour basic course, assessment, and exam. Use the Unarmed Certification Guide for the full application process. New to the industry? The Oregon security career start guide helps you put training in context.

First armed certification or an armed upgrade

A first-time combined applicant needs the unarmed foundation plus the 24-hour Firearm Basic course. An eligible upgrade from active unarmed certification has its own timing requirements. Read the armed application and upgrade guide; ask whether a provider’s advertised armed price includes the unarmed foundation or only the firearms course.

Renewal or annual armed maintenance

Unarmed renewal includes a four-hour refresher and exam. Annual armed qualification and refresher requirements are separate from the two-year credential renewal. Check your records through the I.R.I.S. lookup guide, then match the course to the renewal section in the Unarmed Guide or Armed Guide. An expired or suspended credential may require a different path.

Alarm Monitor training

The basic Alarm Monitor course is 12 hours; renewal training is four hours. Check the Alarm Monitor Certification Guide before using the directory’s Alarm Monitor filter. Confirm the duties and required credential with the employer rather than relying on a dispatch or control-room job title.

Event and Entertainment certification

This is a distinct route with a state online course and exam, not a replacement for every unarmed assignment. Follow the Event and Entertainment Guide and the state course links on DPSST’s training page.

Manager or instructor training

A professional basic class is not an instructor-development course or a manager license. Review the manager and instructor pathways and follow DPSST’s application instructions for the credential you intend to pursue.

Official requirements: DPSST training requirements and new-applicant instructions. Verify the individual instructor’s applicable credential using the official Instructor List and DPSST records. A business listing or OSG spotlight is not state approval of your application.

The table below includes public DPSST training providers whose current course offerings could be verified from their official websites. Use the provider links to confirm schedules, available seats, and final prices before registering.

How to Choose a Training Provider

Before signing up for a class, make sure you understand exactly what you are registering for. Oregon private security certification has different paths depending on the type of work you plan to do.

A good training provider should be able to clearly explain:

  • Which credential and application path does this course cover? Compare the answer with the course-selection guide, especially basic training versus renewal or armed maintenance.
  • Who will teach the class? Ask for the instructor’s name and DPSST number. Check the state instructor list and use the I.R.I.S. verification guide to help interpret available records.
  • What is the complete price? Request tuition, retest, range, and other course charges in writing. Compare separately with DPSST application fees and fingerprinting requirements; do not assume an advertised course price is the entire certification cost.
  • What attendance, technology, and equipment are required? For remote training options, ask about live sessions, assessments, and any in-person components before booking.
  • Is the class running, and what happens if plans change? Reconfirm the listed class dates, venue, available seats, cancellation policy, and rescheduling or refund terms with the provider.
  • What paperwork will I receive, and who submits it? Compare the provider’s explanation with the unarmed application steps or armed application steps. Keep your own copies.
  • Which questions require DPSST rather than the school? Use the background check guide to prepare eligibility questions. A provider’s enrollment decision is not a state eligibility determination.

Do not register for a class based only on price. The cheapest option is not always the best option if the schedule, location, communication, or training format does not fit your needs.

Oregon DPSST Training FAQs

How do I verify a DPSST instructor before enrolling?

Ask for the instructor’s full name, DPSST number, and the credential under which they teach the course. Check the official instructor list and follow OSG’s I.R.I.S. lookup guide for help interpreting available records. A company’s name or a directory spotlight does not establish an individual instructor’s current status; resolve unclear records with DPSST.

Can I complete my Oregon security training online?

Review the online Oregon training guide, then ask the provider about live attendance, assessments, technology, and any in-person components. An Online tag does not mean every course the provider offers is fully remote. Compare your intended course with the requirements for your credential before paying.

Does the advertised tuition include all certification costs?

Do not assume it does. Request an itemized quote showing tuition, retesting, range charges, and any included services. Compare that quote with the DPSST fee breakdown and effective dates and the fingerprinting instructions. Confirm who collects each payment so you do not count or pay the same charge twice.

Do I need a security job before taking a class?

Not necessarily. Public-enrollment courses and employer-arranged training are different options; ask the school about enrollment prerequisites and the employer about any training support. Use the Oregon security career start guide and entry-level job listings to compare those routes. Do not assume an employer will reimburse a course you book independently.

Can I start working as soon as I pass the class?

Passing a course does not, by itself, authorize regulated security work. Complete the applicable application steps and confirm valid work authorization with your employing licensed manager and DPSST. Follow the Unarmed Guide or Armed Guide, and read the temporary-work explanation alongside the official application instructions.

Is an armed refresher the same as renewing my certification?

No. Annual armed training and qualification are separate from the certification-renewal application. Review the armed maintenance and renewal sections, check the official armed requirements, and tell the provider which obligation you need to complete. Do not assume a class advertised as a renewal covers every requirement.

Are the listed prices and upcoming class dates guaranteed?

No. The directory records information checked on the dates stated; it is not a live booking or seat-availability system. Use the class schedule to identify options, then confirm the full details directly with the provider. Price not publicly posted means you should request a quote, not assume the course is free.

How can a training provider claim or correct its listing?

Visit the Trainer Account page to request ownership and manage a profile after OSG approval, or use the listing-request form for corrections and help. Include a business contact, course types, schedule link, and the effective date of any price change. A listing request is not an application for DPSST instructor certification; see the instructor pathway overview for that separate process.

After Training: Finish Certification and Plan Your Next Job

Finish the paperwork. Save your course-completion documents, follow the appropriate application checklist, and use the I.R.I.S. guide to find available certification records. For a missing-document or eligibility notice, read the DPSST notices guide and follow the instructions and deadline in your notice.

Compare employers and jobs. Browse Oregon security openings, research the employer directory, and compare Oregon security wages. Explore hospital security opportunities or other security job types based on your interests and qualifications. Training does not guarantee a job or a particular wage.

Prepare for the actual assignment. Ask what your employer supplies and permits before purchasing gear. Then review the security equipment guide and use the Duty Belt Builder or Vest Setup Builder only to plan an appropriate, employer-approved setup. Broader questions belong in the OSG licensing, jobs, and pay FAQ.

OSG helps readers compare resources; it does not issue DPSST credentials, determine background eligibility, or guarantee course availability. Contact the listed provider to register and use official DPSST training information to verify the requirements for your chosen path.
