Oregon Security Guide (“we,” “us,” or “this site”) publishes independent information about private security training, certification, employers, jobs, and equipment in Oregon. We also offer free employer job submissions and an optional free security-company introduction service. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit oregonsecurityguide.com, why we collect it, and what choices you have.

Information You Give Us Directly
We receive the information you choose to send through available forms, accounts, and communications. Records from earlier submissions may also be retained as described below.
- Email newsletters and job alerts. If you subscribe, we store your email address and the preferences you provide to send the updates you request. You can unsubscribe through the relevant email.
- Contact and directory submissions. Forms and communications collect the details you enter, such as your name, email address, business name, and message.
- Employer accounts and free job submissions. We receive account and contact details, employer information, job descriptions, location, pay and schedule information, application links, and employer assets you submit. Job information intended for the listing may be published after review. Private account and administrative contact information is not intended for publication unless you explicitly include it in your public listing. Do not submit applicant records.
- Company-introduction requests. We receive your name, business or organization, email, optional phone number, preferred contact method, Oregon city or ZIP code, requested service, approximate timing, and optional details. Records may include the permission you provide and related communications.
- Participating companies. We receive business contact details, service areas, stated services, and information supplied for checking applicable authorization and participation.
- Comments. If you comment on a post, we collect your comment, name, email address, and IP address.
Free Security-Company Introductions and Your Permission
The introduction service is free for requesting customers and participating companies. We do not sell information submitted through this service. The request form authorizes OSG to contact you about your request using your preferred method. Choosing a call or text requires a phone number. This is communication about your request, not enrollment in unrelated marketing.
We use your information to review the request, clarify missing details, research a company’s stated services and service area, check applicable authorization, and arrange an introduction. Before disclosing your contact information and relevant request details, we identify one independent security company and ask for your permission. We record your answer. If you do not approve, we do not make that disclosure. A different or additional company requires separate permission.
We do not publish private service requests or distribute them to an unlimited list. Participating companies may use an authorized introduction only to respond to that specific request; they may not resell the information or use it for unrelated marketing. Once a company receives information with your permission, its own privacy practices also apply to its records. You may contact that company directly.
You may instead use our public directory to contact companies yourself without submitting an introduction request. Requesting an introduction does not subscribe you to a newsletter, authorize unrelated automated calls or texts, or commit you to hiring anyone. Job applications, newsletter subscriptions, employer submissions, and ordinary contact messages are separate from the introduction process and are not reused for it without separate permission.
To withdraw a request or permission for future sharing, correct or delete your information, or ask whether and with whom it was shared, email scott@oregonsecurityguide.com with “Privacy request” in the subject. Withdrawal stops future OSG sharing but cannot undo information already disclosed. We may retain limited records for legal, accounting, security, or dispute-resolution purposes.
Earlier submissions retain their existing privacy protections. This updated policy does not expand permission to use or disclose previously submitted information. We will confirm that an earlier requester still wants an introduction and obtain permission for the named recipient before making a new disclosure. Any material future change in how request information is used or shared requires notice and any additional permission needed; publishing new wording alone does not provide that permission.
Do not submit alarm or door codes, passwords, access credentials, detailed security vulnerabilities, medical records, identification documents, or other sensitive operational information. Share necessary operational details securely and directly with the company you choose. OSG is not an emergency channel.
Information Collected Automatically
Like most websites, we and our service providers automatically record certain technical information when you visit: your IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, referring page, the pages you view, and the dates and times of your visits. This is used to understand traffic patterns and keep the site working properly.
Cookies and Similar Technologies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device. This site uses them for essential functions (such as accounts and remembering that you left a comment), for analytics, and in connection with affiliate links.
Most browsers let you refuse or delete cookies through their settings. Blocking cookies will not prevent you from reading the site, though some features may not work as expected.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics and Google Search Console (through Google Site Kit) and Jetpack Stats to measure how the site is used — which pages are visited, how visitors arrive, and how content performs. These services process data on our behalf and may set their own cookies. We use this information in aggregate; we do not use it to identify individual readers. Customer names, emails, phone numbers, and private request details are not included in our custom form-analytics events.
Affiliate Links and Advertising Disclosure
Oregon Security Guide participates in affiliate programs and earns commissions from qualifying purchases. Some links on this site — particularly in equipment and gear articles — are affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, we may receive a commission at no additional cost to you.
Oregon Security Guide is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. We also participate in other affiliate programs with retailers of security and tactical equipment.
When you click an affiliate link, the destination retailer typically sets a cookie that allows it to attribute a later purchase to this site. That cookie is controlled by the retailer, not by us, and is governed by that retailer’s own privacy policy. We do not receive your payment details, card numbers, or shipping address from these purchases.
Equipment affiliate activity is separate from free job submissions and free company introductions. Participation in either free service does not require a purchase. A featured label or directory entry does not guarantee licensing, service quality, or availability. Existing purchase terms are not changed by this policy.
How We Use Information
- To operate, maintain, and improve the site and its content.
- To respond to messages, account questions, listing submissions, and correction requests.
- To send newsletters and job alerts when you subscribe.
- To review and publish submitted job information and directory entries.
- To handle requested free company introductions with recipient-specific permission and maintain necessary communication and consent records.
- To detect and prevent spam, abuse, and security problems.
- To understand aggregate traffic and reader interests.
We do not sell newsletter subscriber lists, introduction requests, or applicant records. We do not reuse job applications for company-introduction requests.
Service Providers We Rely On
We share limited information with the providers that make the site function. Each has its own privacy policy:
- Automattic — hosting, Jetpack forms and response storage, Jetpack Stats, newsletter tools, and Akismet spam filtering. Akismet receives comment and form-submission data, including IP address, to determine whether it is spam.
- Google — Analytics, Search Console, and email communications used to receive and respond to requests.
- Affiliate retailers — including Amazon, when you click an affiliate link.
Independent security companies receiving an introduction with your permission are separate recipients, as described above. We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of the site or its readers.
Links to Other Sites
This site links extensively to training providers, employers, retailers, and government resources such as DPSST. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of any site we link to. Review their policies before providing personal information.
Your Choices and Rights
Depending on where you live and which laws apply, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information, obtain a copy, or opt out of certain processing or sale. Regardless of whether those laws apply to a site of this size, you may make a privacy request by emailing scott@oregonsecurityguide.com or oregonsecurityguide@gmail.com. We will respond as promptly as we can and explain any limitation that prevents fulfillment. You do not need an account to make a request.
You can unsubscribe from newsletters and job alerts through the relevant email and control cookies through browser settings. You can decline an introduction, withdraw permission for future sharing, or contact companies directly through the directory without submitting a request.
Data Retention
Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely so follow-up replies can be recognized. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Form, account, and listing information is kept as long as needed to handle the request, operate the account, and maintain necessary records. Introduction records may include permission, the named recipient, communications, and the outcome. Earlier order and submission records may be retained for accounting, complaints, or legal obligations. You may request deletion; limited records may be retained where required or justified for those purposes. Replacing or removing a form does not itself delete prior submissions.
Children’s Privacy
This site is intended for adults researching security careers and services and is not directed to children under 13. The company-introduction form is for people 18 or older authorized to make the request. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We take reasonable measures to protect information we hold, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) across the site. No method of transmission or storage over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the site changes. The effective date shows when it was last revised. A policy update alone does not authorize a new use or disclosure of previously collected request information; we obtain additional permission where needed.
