What you’ll do

The Flex Advanced Security Officer provides security, customer assistance and emergency response services across assigned facilities. Responsibilities may include:

  • Patrol public and restricted areas of the facility.
  • Maintain a visible security presence to discourage crime and prohibited activity.
  • Monitor buildings, parking areas, grounds, stairways and patient-care areas.
  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency incidents.
  • Assist employees, patients, visitors and members of the public.
  • Use verbal de-escalation when interacting with individuals experiencing emotional or behavioral crises.
  • Physically intervene or assist with restraints when necessary and permitted by policy.
  • Escort individuals and support facility personnel.
  • Identify suspicious activity, safety hazards and potential property damage.
  • Write accurate incident and activity reports.
  • Follow Tarian and client security procedures.
  • Apply established use-of-force policies appropriately.
  • Safely handle and maintain required security equipment.
  • Travel between or become familiar with multiple facilities when assigned.

Minimum qualifications

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all applicable Oregon security licenses and job-specific certifications.
  • Ability to complete Tarian’s new-hire orientation and required security training.
  • Ability to complete and pass Basic TASER training.
  • Strong communication, customer service and de-escalation skills.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Ability to prepare routine reports and workplace correspondence.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including email, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to work effectively with patients, visitors, physicians, employees, vendors and members of the public.
  • Reliable attendance and the ability to work a changing schedule.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record when driving is part of the assignment.

Previous experience working with the public in a customer-service or protective-services environment is preferred.

Preferred experience

Tarian may give preference to applicants with education or experience in areas such as:

IAHSS Basic, Advanced and Supervisor certifications are preferred. Selected applicants may be required to complete applicable IAHSS certifications within one year of assignment.

TASER and armed-security requirements

Advanced Security Officers must be able to qualify with a TASER when initially assigned and complete required requalification training.

Applicants must also be able to:

  • Obtain any required license or authorization to carry a TASER.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Tarian’s TASER policies.
  • Participate in additional TASER training when required.
  • Maintain applicable armed-security licenses or job-specific certifications.
  • Safely handle a firearm when required by the assignment.

Although the position title specifically references a TASER, the employer’s description also includes firearm-handling responsibilities and armed-security licensing. Physical and scheduling requirements

This can be a physically demanding security position. Officers may be required to:
