Public Safety Officer – St. Charles Health System (Prineville)
Job Description
Position Overview The Public Safety Officer ensures the safety of patients, caregivers, visitors, and property across St. Charles Health System facilities. This role includes secure patient transport, emergency response, de‑escalation, dispatching, and monitoring security systems. Officers support a safe environment for patient care and uphold the organization’s mission, values, and code of ethics.
Essential Functions & Duties
- Perform secure patient transport, including assessment and safe restraint use
- Respond to emergency codes and critical incidents
- Serve as security dispatcher: take calls, coordinate officer movement, use tracking software, complete reports
- Monitor security cameras, alarms, and secure doors
- Complete accurate reports (code gray debriefs, after‑action reports, special security reports)
- Enforce parking rules and escalate violations
- Provide customer service, wayfinding, and after‑hours assistance
- Conduct real‑time threat assessments and remove harmful items from patient areas
- Operate vehicles safely during transports
- Provide first aid or CPR when needed
- Operate metal detectors (handheld and stationary)
- Inspect buildings for security of entrances and public areas
- Lead de‑escalation efforts during behavioral health crises
- Assist during mass‑casualty events and crowd control
- Support nursing staff as an unlicensed assistive care provider
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and compliance with all laws and policies
Pay & Schedule
- Pay Range: $23.74 – $30.39 per hour
- Status: Full Time
- Shift: Evenings (Second Shift)
- Hours: 1300–2330
- Schedule: As scheduled (may include weekends and holidays)
Location
Prineville, Oregon (St. Charles Health System)
Required Education & Certifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to obtain DPSST Armed/Unarmed certification within 90 days
- AHA Basic Life Support within 30 days
- Code Gray Training upon hire
- Valid Oregon driver’s license
- Ability to complete 6–8 week new officer training
Preferred Experience
- Corrections, military, EMS, law enforcement, or behavioral health experience
- Customer service experience with heavy public contact
- Hospital security experience
